Rooted in Carmel, Embracing the World Through the Word.
At the Mater et Decor Carmeli Monastery in Pasco, Washington, our Carmelite sisters live a life dedicated to the love and teachings of Jesus. Originally from Tarlac, Philippines, we have journeyed here as missionaries, called to bring the peace, hope, and love of Christ to everyone we encounter.
Our community of five sisters lives a cloistered life, centered on prayer, quiet reflection, and service. As we work toward building our monastery—a sanctuary where anyone seeking renewal can connect with Jesus—we are guided by a deep commitment to bring comfort and grace to those in need.
We believe that every moment of life holds the possibility of encountering God.
In silence, solitude, prayer, and community, we listen deeply to His Word and seek to align with His will.
Daily, we embrace the call to inner transformation,
that we might reflect His light in a world of uncertainty.
Through a hidden life of contemplation, we become quiet vessels
of God’s healing, mercy, and love.
We hope to lift the veil that keeps hearts fixed on the fleeting,
to remove the blindness caused by worldliness,
and to give witness to eternal values—
becoming, in the language of our time, a signpost pointing toward the life to come.
Rooted in the Carmelite tradition, our mission is to live a life of prayer, silence, and sacrificial love in communion with God and one another.
Through daily contemplation of the Word, participation in the sacred liturgy, and the offering of our hidden lives, we seek to intercede for the world, witness to eternal truths, and radiate the peace and presence of Christ.
In a spirit of humility and hope, we strive to be a quiet light for those seeking meaning beyond the material—a sign of the life that is to come.
We center our lives on deep, silent communion with God taking place daily in the Holy Eucharist. We carry this Presence as we strive to be sisters in community, supporting one another on our journey toward unity and transformation in Christ.
In silence, we listen to the voice of God.
In solitude, we deepen our intimacy with the Blessed Trinity whose all-inclusive radiance of love enables us to see with divine eyes, to hear with divine ears and to love with nonjudgmental heart of God.
We live simply and gratefully, trusting in Divine Providence and finding joy in detachment from worldliness and materialism.
In the likeness of Elijah, the spiritual origin of Carmel, a Carmelite nun takes on a prophetic role as she listens daily to the Word of God. In intimate union with Mary, "the book in which our Rule is written because the Word is written in her"; she seeks to live the mystery of her interior life and of the essential union with God in Christ Jesus. Thus, the monasteries will be upper rooms. where, in the company of Mary, Mother of Jesus, the nuns will pray for the action of the Holy Spirit in the permanent Pentecost of the Church (cf. Constitution of the Carmelite Nuns n. 22).
Living faithfully with the rich heritage of Carmel and the beloved Carmelite saints, the Carmelite Family continues to adorn Holy Mother Church with a crown of beauty and glory.
Contemplation is a fertile garden of intercessory prayer for the needs of the whole of creation. Though unseen and unknown to the world, our life of prayer, sacrifice, and love is a powerful offering for the healing and salvation of souls.
